Himalayan Meltdown Trailer

CHINA GREEN  is part of this Arrowhead production that airs on the Discovery Asia channel this spring. Asia Society is also bringing the documentary to New York and Washington DC. Below is a clip from a story by the Austin American-Statesman:

Documentary maker Patrick Fries’ latest project — a film about melting glaciers in the Himalayas is set to air on the TV network Discovery Asia in late spring — required lugging equipment to cliffs at 17,000 feet and interviews with characters such as the “Ice Man,” an engineer in the north of India who has designed man-made glaciers.

Fries had beaten out dozens of other filmmakers for the job, which he was awarded in March after submitting a 50-page proposal and a budget.

He had just returned from Bhutan, where he was shooting a short film for an environmental group associated with the World Bank.

“We did have a little leg up because I knew the topic really well,” he said. “We boned up on Himalayan mountains facts and culture.

“All we had left to tackle was Bangladesh, Nepal, India and China,” he said, with a chuckle.
