Liu Chuansheng

 

In June 2005, Chuansheng Liu began her tenure as the Chairperson of the University Council, Beijing Normal University. She is also the Chair of the University Committee on International Chinese Education.

Prior to assuming her current position, Chuansheng Liu served as Minister-Counselor for Education at the Chinese Embassy in Washington, D.C. from 2003 to 2005, with responsibility for all matters related to education in the embassy. During her tenure, she contributed significantly to Sino-American educational cooperation and exchange, including initiation of an AP Chinese program with the College Board, establishment of the first Confucius Institute in North America, and establishment of the Presidential Scholar China Tour.

After receiving her master’s degree in engineering from Tsinghua University, she first worked in the Ministry of Education of China (MOE); then she worked in the Education Office as first secretary in Chinese Embassy to the UK. She took the position as Vice President of China Education Press Agency (CEPA) from 1994-1996 then President and Senior Chief Editor from 1997 to 2003. CEPA is the largest educational publishing house under the direct authority of MOE and is one of the most prestigious sources of education-related publications in China. CEPA publishes the following two newspapers and four journals that are the authoritative media for understanding education development in China: China Education Daily, Chinese Teacher Weekly, People's Education Journal, China Higher Education, China Scholars Abroad, and Minority Education in China.

Chuansheng Liu also works with many educational organizations. She is now Vice Chairperson of the China Society for Educational Development Strategy, Director General of the National Association for Research on Study Abroad, and Chairperson of the Special Working Committee for Human Resources Promotion at Hanban/Confucius Institute Headquarters.
