As a governor, an entrepreneur in business and a statesman for education, Gaston Caperton’s career has been distinguished by effective, innovative leadership at the state and national level. Caperton has been the architect of a new, more engaged and nationally prominent College Board.

Under his leadership, new AP world language and culture courses were launched in Chinese, Italian and Japanese, in order to prepare U.S. students to participate in a global community. As a two-term governor of West Virginia, he transformed the state with his sound economic policies and ambitious education reform agenda. In recognition for his lifetime of leadership, Caperton has received numerous awards and 10 honorary degrees.
