School Visits

In collaboration with the organizers, Chicago Public Schools has arranged for optional pre-conference school visits so you can see Chinese language programs in action.

If you have successfully pre-registered for school visit, you should have received an email with the following instructions:

  • Gather in the lobby of the conference hotel at 8:45 on Thursday, April 30 - The Chicago Marriott Downtown 540 North Michigan Avenue, Chicago
  • Register with the coordinator for you route and obtain a name tag
  • Buses will depart the hotel promptly and can not wait for late participants
  • This event requires advanced registration. Only participants who registered for the site-visits in advance are eligible to participate
  • Participants cancelling for any reason are not eligible for a refund

The schools selected will reflect different socio-economic backgrounds and feature various student proficiency levels throughout grades K-12. Their programs all have proven track records of offering high-quality instruction and student achievement.

The school visits will allow you to

  • observe classes
  • learn about how Chinese was introduced to a school setting
  • participate in discussions with instructors and school administrators
  • talk with students


Chicago's Chinese language program is the largest in the country.

    Lindblom Math and Science Academy

    McCormick Elementary School and Curie High School
    8:45 AM Participants gather in the lobby of the conference hotel; register with the coordinator for Route B and obtain a name tag
    9:15 AM Bus departs hotel
    9:45 AM-11 AM Visit McCormick Elementary School
    11:30 AM-12: 45 PM Visit Curie High School (lunch is included)
    1:30 PM Return to Hotel

    Jackson Language Academy and
    Whitney Young Magnet High School

    8:45 AM Participants gather in the lobby of the conference hotel; register with the coordinator for Route C and obtain a name tag
    9:15 AM Bus departs hotel
    9:45-11:45 AM Visit Whitney Young Magnet High School (lunch is included)
    12:00-1:00 PM

    Northside College Preparatory High School

Fee
The fee is $35, which includes lunch and transportation. You must register for the conference in order to participate in the school visits.

Meeting time and venue
The school visits will depart from the conference hotel on Thursday morning, April 30. If you are not from the Chicago area, please plan to arrive in Chicago on April 29.
