Harold McGraw III

Harold McGraw III is chairman, president and chief executive officer of The McGraw-Hill Companies, a leading global information company serving three powerful trends driving long-term economic growth around the world – the need for knowledge, the need for capital and the need for information transparency – through such leading brands as Standard & Poor’s, McGraw-Hill Education, BusinessWeek and J.D. Power and Associates.

Mr. McGraw was elected chairman in December 1999; chief executive officer in 1998; and president and chief operating officer in 1993. He has been a member of The McGraw-Hill Companies’ Board of Directors since 1987.

Under his leadership, the Corporation has undergone a complete transformation, building a diverse portfolio of knowledge-based, global businesses designed to generate profits throughout a wide variety of economic cycles and market conditions. In Financial Services, Standard & Poor’s is the world’s leading provider of financial analysis and risk assessments. In Education, McGraw-Hill Education is a global leader covering virtually every aspect of the market from pre-K through higher education, as well as professional and lifetime learning. And in Information & Media, the Corporation is a preeminent provider of essential news, information, analysis and solutions globally through BusinessWeek, J.D. Power and Associates and leading portals for the energy, construction and aviation industries. The McGraw-Hill Companies had sales of $6.4 billion in 2008.

Mr. McGraw, 60, joined The McGraw-Hill Companies in 1980 and has held a number of positions with increasing responsibilities, including vice president, Corporate Planning; publisher, Aviation Week & Space Technology; president, McGraw-Hill Publications Company; and president, McGraw-Hill Financial Services Company.

He serves on the Boards of Directors of United Technologies and ConocoPhillips. He is chairman of Business Roundtable, chairman of the Emergency Committee for American Trade (ECAT), a board member of the United States Council for International Business and a member of the Business Council. He is a member of the State Department’s Advisory Committee on Transformational Diplomacy and the U.S. Trade Representative’s Advisory Committee for Trade, Policy and Negotiations (ACTPN).

Consistent with The McGraw-Hill Companies’ commitment to supporting community and charitable organizations, Mr. McGraw is chairman of the Committee Encouraging Corporate Philanthropy. Additionally, Mr. McGraw serves on the boards of Carnegie Hall, the Council for Economic Education, New York Public Library, National Organization on Disability, National Academy Foundation, Partnership for New York City, Prep for Prep and the Council for Industry and Higher Education in London.

Mr. McGraw received an M.B.A. from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania in 1976 and a B.A. from Tufts University in 1972.

Subha Barry

Subha Barry is Managing Director at Bank of America Merrill Lynch. Most recently she was the head of Global Diversity and Inclusion for Merrill Lynch & Co., Inc. In this role, she is responsible for managing and integrating existing and new diversity efforts across the corporation globally.

Ms. Barry joined Merrill Lynch in 1989 and spent 13 years in the Private Client Group as a highly successful and best practice Financial Advisor and Branch Manager. In 2001, she created the firm’s Multicultural and Diversified Business Development group to help establish Merrill Lynch as the preeminent wealth management firm among diverse and multicultural markets. She headed the group until 2005 when she was appointed to her current role.

Ms. Barry holds a Bachelor of Accounting from Bombay University, India, a Master of Business and Public Management and a Master of Accounting from Rice University, Houston. She is a member of the Board and of the Corporate Circle Advisory Committee of the National Council for Research on Women (NCRW); a Corporate Advisory Council member of The White House Project; a Hidden Brain Drain Task Force member, and she sits on the Advisory Board for VOICE, Hyperion’s imprint for women. Ms. Barry is a member of the Council of Overseers for Rice University’s Business School and serves on the Boards of The Cancer Institute of New Jersey and the Princeton HealthCare System Foundation.

Ms. Barry is an active mentor of women both within her community and at Merrill Lynch, where she is responsible for the firm’s Diversity and Inclusion Council. A three time cancer survivor, she supports and coaches newly diagnosed patients with coping strategies and work/life balance. In 2000, she won the Women’s Fund of New Jersey Award for Outstanding Achievement in Banking and Finance. In 2006, she was inducted into the New York City’s Academy of Woman Achievers. The National Organization for Women (NOW), recognized her as one of its 2008 Women of Power and Influence.

Ms. Barry lives in New Jersey with her husband and two children.

Michael Chen

Michael Chen is the President of Media, Communications, and Entertainment, GE Capital and is a Vice President and Officer of GE. Michael has primary responsibility for overseeing GE’s debt and equity financing activities to the media, communications & entertainment sectors.

Michael started his career in 1985 as a financial analyst for IBM. After several management positions in sales, marketing, finance and risk management, he left IBM in 1994 to join GE as Vice President of Risk Management for GE Capital Aviation Services (GECAS). After spending five years in various leadership roles, he was named Senior Vice President and General Mgr, North America for GECAS in 1999. Michael was named an Officer of the GE Company and assumed his current position in December 2006.

In 2006, he was named as one of the nation’s top sales and customer relationship individuals in the book “Secrets of Great Rainmakers” by best-selling author Jeffrey Fox, and in October of 2008, he was given the “Dealmaker of the Year” award by the New York based organization, The Executive Council, in recognition of his team’s highly successful equity venture with NBC Universal called the Peacock Equity Fund, and for GE being ranked #2 overall in Media/Telecom Finance for 2008.

Earlier in 2008, Michael was awarded the Pinnacle Award by the Asian American Business Development Center, which is the nation’s most prestigious Asian American business award. This award is given annually to an individual who is recognized as a leader in their field, and is serving in a top position within their company. He has also been featured on “The Wall Street Journal Online,” and the syndicated radio program “The CEO Show” (www.theceoshowonline.com).

Michael received his B.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Rochester in 1983 and an MBA in finance from the Johnson Graduate School of Management at Cornell University in 1985. Michael serves on the Board of Directors for Norwalk Community College and on the Advisory Council for the Johnson School.

Michael Hastings

Michael Hastings is the Global Head of Citizenship and Diversity with KPMG - leading both areas of strategy for KPMG International working directly to KPMG’s International Chairman Tim Flynn and CEO Mike Wareing. Previously he was the BBC’s first Head of Corporate Social Responsibility. Michael is a non executive Director for British Telecom on BT’s Board for Responsible and Sustainable Business. He is also a Trustee of the Vodafone Group Foundation and a Member of the Council of the Overseas Development Institute. Michael represents KPMG International on the Global Corporate Citizenship International committee of the World Economic Forum and also serves on the Oversight Board for SIFE – Students in Free Enterprise.

Michael is also a member of the WBCSD - World Business Council on Sustainable Development representing KPMG. Michael is a Board Member of the International Business Leaders Forum and in the USA, he is also a member of KPMG’s US Diversity Board.

Jane Hyun

dlf_janehyunFounder and President of Hyun & Associates, Ms. Hyun is an executive coach and leadership strategist to Fortune 500 companies, MBA programs, and government/nonprofits. The firm focuses on the impact of culture on leadership, workplace interactions and business strategy.

Her firm’s expertise in the area of talent management of Asians, women, and multicultural professionals has been internationally acclaimed by clients. She advises senior management teams, ERG (Employee Resource Groups) leaders, and diversity councils on the importance of building effective multicultural teams and practical strategies for winning the talent war.

Prior to starting her consulting firm, she was a Vice President of Human Resources/Talent Development at JP Morgan, and Director of Recruiting at Deloitte & Touche and Resources Connection.

Linda Akutagawa is the Vice President for Resource and Business Development at Leadership Education for Asian Pacifics, Inc. (LEAP). She is responsible for LEAP’s overall fundraising and business development. She also manages and maintains relationships with LEAP’s diverse constituents ranging from Board members, program alumni, community organizations, corporations, student organizations, universities and employee network groups. Previously, Ms. Akutagawa was the Director of External Relations developing and implementing LEAP’s marketing & sales strategy for it’s programs and services.

Jennifer Brown is the Founder and President of Jennifer Brown Consulting, a leadership, communications and diversity consulting firm based in New York City. Her company advises leading businesses and non-profits such as Cisco Systems, BASF, Schwab, Ernst & Young, American Express, The New York Times, Working Mother Media, GenderPAC, and many others on the creation of inclusive workplaces that resonate with current, and future, employees and leaders. She speaks and consults globally, specializing in generational differences, leadership development, team dynamics, and personal branding and presence for executives.

J.D. Hokoyama is the President & CEO and a founding board member of Leadership Education for Asian Pacifics, Inc. (LEAP). A former Peace Corps volunteer serving in Ethiopia, he has been a high school English teacher and department chair, a K-8 elementary school principal, an executive vice president for fund development and public affairs, the acting national director of the Japanese American Citizens League and the director of the Office of Asian Pacific American Students Services at the University of Southern California. He speaks and trains nationally in all sectors on topics such as becoming a 21st century leader, understanding cultural values, risk taking and breaking the glass ceiling.

Alan Kumamoto is a partner of Kumamoto Associates, a marketing, management and communications general partnership. His career spans international business, government, and nonprofit jobs before co-founding Kumamoto Associates. Alan has 40 years of experience in management consulting, resource development/fundraising, and human relations training. He has presented planning workshops and seminars in Australia, Canada, Ghana, Japan and Ukraine.

Karen J. Watai is the President of Karen Watai Associates LLC, a firm dedicated to working with professionals through coaching and customized training to enhance performance and achieve results in a long-term and sustainable manner.  She is committed to the process of enabling individuals and organizations to achieve leadership in their desired areas.

Janice Won is a diversity strategist and consultant recognized for championing enterprise-wide diversity initiatives in a global Fortune 100 company, for coaching leaders and providing leadership in driving the diversity agenda in corporate, research and non-profit sectors.
