Asia Society

Untitled (Formerly Home)

Untitled (formerly Home), an installation on view as part of Asia Society Museum’s exhibition, was originally created for the exhibition, “Home,” in Osaka in 2005. This was when YNG officially became a unified entity. The installation was meant to evoke an intimate atmosphere, consisting of a drawing room filled with Nara’s work and a playroom for visitors. In 2006 it was remodeled as a multi-functional installation called Home Café for the exhibition, “Yoshitomo Nara + graf: A to Z,” in Nara’s hometown of Hirosaki in Aomori Prefecture. Reconfigured with a kitchen, a dining room, and a living room, it functioned as a café serving drinks and sweets to visitors while they relaxed and viewed artworks by Nara. For the Asia Society exhibition, this installation evolves further while maintaining the intimate relationship to viewers that Nara values so deeply.
