MUSIC DIALOGUE II CONCERT

PARTICIPANTS

THE MUSEUM DIRECTORS DIALOGUE

Kicking off this year’s Forum on November 15th, 2012, a dinner will be hosted by US Ambassador to China Gary Locke. Two days of discussions and excursions for a group of Chinese and American museum directors will then commence on the 16th, bringing together 15 American museum directors for dialogue and exchange with their Chinese counterparts. The purpose of this aspect of the Forum is to initiate a series of conversations between museum and art professionals on how best to build collaboration between museums in China and the United States.

A MUSICAL DIALOGUE PART II

On November 17th, the Forum will close with a collaborative performance lead by SAN FRANCISCO SYMPHONY Conductor Michael Tilson Thomas, in collaboration with other artists, at the Central Conservatory of Music. The concert will feature Tilson Thomas playing four-hand piano with pianist Wang Yuja, the San Francisco Symphony’s jazz ensemble, Chinese guqin player Chen Leiji, Chinese sheng player Wu Tong, guzheng player Wu Fei, American five-string Banjo player Abigail Washburn, and spoken word performed by Amy Tan. A MUSICAL DIALOGUE II will build off of last year’s concert led by Yo-Yo Ma in order to continue intercultural collaboration through the art of music. We hope that the events of this year’s Forum will be a meaningful effort to foster partnership and cultural exchange.
