Zhang Yu

Zhang Yu is a correspondent and news anchor of China Central Television (CCTV). Since joining CCTV in 1992, Zhang has been working for a variety of programs as both director and anchorman. In 1997, he was transferred to the News Commentary Department at CCTV, working as correspondent and anchorman of News Probe. Now, he is hosting many of the name-brand News programs at CCTV, such as Focus and Oriental Horizon. In the past 20 years, Zhang Yu has worked on the coverage of over 100 significant events, including working as a journalist, anchor and producer covering the Sichuan Earthquake, Beijing Olympics, and Shenzhou VII spacecraft, winning him many national awards. During the past two years, he has been to many areas of emergencies all over the world, and brought the first-hand reports to Chinese audience. In 2010, he spent 30 days in Haiti covering the earthquake. In 2011, he went deep into the isolation area after the nuclear meltdown crisis in Fukushima, Japan.
