Susan Meiselas

Susan Meiselas is a documentary photographer and member of the Magnum Photos cooperative since 1976. She is the author of Carnival Strippers, Nicaragua, El Salvador: The Work of 30 Photographers, Chile from Within, Kurdistan: In the Shadow of History, Pandora’s Box and Encounters with the Dani.

Her most recent project is as co-curator of COAL + ICE at The Three Shadows Photography Art Centre in Beijing. Featuring the work of over 30 international photographers, this exhibition visually narrates the hidden chain of actions triggered by mankind’s use of coal. In 2007, Meiselas, along with fellow members of Magnum Photos, formed the Magnum Foundation to produce, distribute and preserve significant in-depth documentary photography. She currently serves as President of the Foundation.

Her awards include the Harvard Arts Medal, Robert Capa Gold Medal, Leica Award for Excellence, Maria Moors Cabot Prize, the Hasselblad Foundation Prize, the Cornell Capa Infinity Awards, the Lucie Documentary Award, the Krazna Kraus And/Or Book Award and the Luma Historical Book Award. In 1992 she was made a MacArthur Fellow. Her photographs are included in several American and international collections.
