The
Sheng ji
zonglu, which translates literally as "General Collection of
Imperial Reliefs," concerns medical theories and the treatment of various
diseases. The original Northern Song
compilation of this monumental work contained 200 juan, of which only 26 are
extant. Covered within are numerous
aspects of the art of healing, such as internal medicine, gynecology,
pediatrics, acupuncture, diet, charms, and even the so-called elixir of life.
About 20,000 medicinal recipes are also included.
Also,
in 200 juan,
the revised edition of the encyclopedia from the Yuan dynasty has not survived
as a complete set either. This volume
contains the section Shanghan men (Febrile Diseases Caused by
Cold), which deals with the symptoms and management of typhoid and typhoid
fever.
