Opening Markets and Continuing Growth:
Vietnam and the Asian Economy

Already one of the fastest-growing economies in the world and embarking on an ambitious agenda of economic reform on the heels of the historic Bilateral Trade Act with the United States, Vietnam may now be ready to unleash its vast potential and emerge as an important part of the Asian economy. This conference will look at what Vietnam needs to do in order to sustain high long-term growth rates, and will assess the opportunities for companies and investors who are looking to capitalize on Vietnam’s potential. On a broader level, the conference will examine the long-term ramifications for the Asia-Pacific region as a whole. Will growth in Vietnam provide a stimulus for Southeast Asia that will allow it to rise to the economic challenge of China? How can the Mekong Region become more integrated into the ASEAN economy? How should multinational corporations operating in the region rethink their strategies and factor the comparative advantages of Vietnam and its neighbors into their regional calculus? Co-organized by Dow Jones & Company and Vietnam's Ministry of Planning and Investment.

Since 1989, the Asian Corporate Conference has attracted a combined audience of more than 11,000 participants from more than 25 countries around the world.

"The March 2003 Corporate Conference in Hanoi was a “tour de force.” From the perspective of a large US corporation, it would be hard to envision a better venue for meeting senior officials, Vietnamese and regional businessmen and a host of general experts on the entire Asia-Pacific region."

- Stanley Roth, Vice President Asia International Relations; Former Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs
