Dr. S. Sadagopan

Professor Sadagopan is the founder Director of the Indian Institute of Information Technology, Bangalore. This new generation Institute, promoted jointly by the Government of Karnataka & IT industry in Bangalore, attempts to leverage IT for India through a world-class IT Institute in the Silicon Valley of India. The Institute commenced its flagship program, Master's in Information Technology with about 150 students on September 1999. Professor Sadagopan has been teaching at two premier educational Institutes in India, namely, the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur, (IITK) during 1980 - 1995 and the Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore, (IIMB) during 1995-1999.

Professor Sadagopan’s research interests include Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), E Commerce, Corporate Information Systems, Database, Multimedia , Internet / Intranet in the Corporate World and Operations Research Applications to Management.

Professor Sadagopan got his Bachelor's degree in Engineering from Madras University in 1973. After a brief stint at the Consultancy firm M/S Engineers India Ltd., at New Delhi during 1973-1976, he moved to Purdue University, USA for his Master's and Doctoral degrees. After completing his Ph.D. in 1979, he returned to India to teach at IIT, Kanpur.

Professor Sadagopan had visited and / or taught at several Universities throughout the world - Purdue, RUTGERS, MIT, Stanford, U Washington, VCU (USA), Nijenrode (Netherlands), RMIT (Australia), AIT (Thailand), UNU (Japan), Indian Institutes of Technology IIT’s- Kanpur, Madras, Indian Institute of Science - Bangalore, Indian Institutes of Management IIM’s - Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Lucknow, Administrative Staff College of India ASCII - Hyderabad, LBS Academy of Administration -Mussourie, MDI - Gurgaon, PAPMI, MIT - Manipal, SV University - Tirupati (India), to name a few.

Professor Sadagopan’s textbook on Management Information Systems was published by Prentice Hall in 1995. He edited the Textbook ERP - A Managerial Perspective published by Tata McGraw Hill in 1999.

Professor consults extensively to some of the largest private & public sector corporations in India, in Computing, Communications, Software, Automotive, Oil and Power industries as well as social sector. He is a member of the Board of Directors of several private and public sector corporations; he is also a member of the Board of Studies of several Universities.

He was a Fulbright Scholar in 1995. He is listed in Marquis’s "Who's Who in the World" and "Outstanding People of the Twentieth Century" published by the International Biographical Centre, Cambridge, England.

Professor Sadagopan is a Fellow of the Institution of Engineers, India and OR Society of India. He is a Member of the IEEE Computer Society, Association of Information Systems (AIS) and Association of Computing Machinery (ACM).

Professor Sadagopan serves on the Editorial Board of International Journal of Industrial Engineering, OPSEARCH, International Journal of Operations and Quantitative Management. He writes frequently on several aspects of IT in the columns of Economic Times, Computers Today, Dataquest, CIO Magazine, ITSpace.com and Express Computer. He is a featured columnist for the electronic newsletter InfoTech Desk at Askallindia.com and the fortnightly e-education column of the Times of India.

Professor Sadagopan was recently invited to attend the STEPAN Workshop on "Human Resource Development for the Knowledge-based Economy" at Seoul during June 12-13, 2000, "Stanford Global Challenge 2000" at Stanford during June 19-22, 2000 and UNU Workshop on "Preparing Asia for the Digital Economy" at Tokyo, during June 29-30, 2000. Earlier he was invited to attend BaaN World 98 Conference at Denver, USA in April 1998 and SAPPHIRE 98 at Melbourne, Australia in November 1998.

Since 1997, Professor Sadagopan has been very active in Enterprise Computing, and teaches and consults in the area of ERP extensively. He is a Certified SAP Consultant and is familiar with other leading ERP software including Oracle Applications, BaaN IV and Ramco Marshal. He coordinated the ERP 98 Conference in Bangalore during February 1998. He also maintains a Frequently Asked Questions on ERP in India
