John has 30 years of experience in the telecommunications industry.
He has joined the Company as a whole-time Director on October 1, 2000
to develop the business in Europe and the telecom sector. Prior to
that date, John was on the Board since December 1994 as a non-executive
Director, representing BT. He has been instrumental in revising the
strategic direction, creating Vision 2000 and assisting the management
team that to acheive all round growth of the Company since 1996.
In July 1997, John was invited to lead the Network Strategy &
Business Planning team for BT's UK networks. From February 1999,
this strategy role changed into a wider strategy and commercial
leadership role for the BT UK networks business (~GBP 5 billion
p.a. turnover).
John's early career within BT involved software development of
the System X telecom switch and the creation of BT's Network Management
System Development department.
John has also carried out a number of assignments within BT for
R&D strategy, operational support systems architecture &
evolution, business strategy and organisational re-engineering.
John has a B. Eng. degree in Electronic Engineering from Liverpool
University and M.Sc. in Computing Science from Leeds University.
John has been conferred with the following awards:
- Awarded MBE (Member of the British Empire medal) June 1996 for
services to telecommunications science.
- Awarded BT Martlesham Medal - May 1990 - for contribution to
Science & Technology with the development and support of the
Operations & Maintenance Centre.
