Life with the Han

一。 Show the class an image depicting Wenji’s life with the Han people.
二。 Read together in class the story of Lady Wenji and the Lament of the Nomad Flute.
Introduce new vocabulary and grammar pertaining to Wenji’s life with the Han using the associated flash cards.
三。 Have the students work in pairs to answer the following questions using new vocabulary and grammar:
A: 蔡文姬是哪个朝代的人？ B: 她是东汉人。
A: 你会写汉字吗？ B: 我会写一点儿汉字。
A: 骑马难不难？ B: 骑马很难。
四。 Divide students into four groups to do research on the Internet to identify, learn about, and report on Wenji’s life with the Han people. Each group will investigate six topics from the Han dynasty: food, clothing, housing, transportation, trade, and language. They will use their findings to create a picture book with captions that describes Wenji’s life with the Han.
