Humaira Bachal Awarded the 2013 Women of Impact Award in NYC

We would like to congratulate Humaira Bachal (A21 Young Leader, Dhaka 2012) who was recently awarded the Women of Impact Award 2013 at the 4th Annual Women of the World Summit that was held in New York earlier this month. Humaira, along with Khalida Brohi, 2 young women from Pakistan were honored by the Daily Beast’s Tina Brown for their courage, passion, and tireless work, “…for doing it by themselves, doing it without recognition…”

Humaira has been fighting for girls’ right to education in her home town in Moach Goth, Pakistan despite the opposition of many elders in a patriarchal society. She has been risking her life daily to teach young girls with what she learns in school. Her efforts caught the attention of a local non-profit which gave her access to the Rotary Club of Karachi’s financial assistance, which thus led to the establishment of the Dream Foundation Trust.
