Nature’s Breath: Arokhayasala
1995; metal, terracotta, herbs; 256 x 215 x 215 cm. Collection of Reinhart Frais, Bangkok.

Calming the body (kaya) and mind (citta) through mindfulness-the awareness of breathing in and out (ãnãpanasati) -is central to traditional healing.

[For Nature's Breath: Arokhayasala, I wanted] viewers to cleanse and cure the mind in order to experience the condition of relaxation and mindfulness. The atmosphere is similar to monasteries, temples, or hospitals of mindfulness (sati). Meditation, space, border, sound, material, and aroma in surrounding space of the work are the essence that arouse viewer's perception. - Montien Boonma
