1992; terracotta, steel, gold foil; 68 x 300 x 200
cm. Collection of Rama IX Art Museum Foundation, Bangkok.
The title is a word play on aum or om, an invocation inspired
by the Hindu sacred syllable. Terracotta bowls with molded forms of clasping
hands are placed on triangular steel. The bowls are painted black on the
outside, and the interior is coated with gold leaf. Looking inside the
bowls induces peace and mindfulness; at the same time, their shapes are
reminiscent of skulls found at archeological sites at Ban Chiang.
